This was the beautiful Sunday afternoon I spent wandering around Auckland Domain, I happened upon a jazz concert at one end of the park, and moved on with the crowds to listen to opera in the Winter Gardens where they had tea and scones (pronounces scaunes not scones like in the states).
Back to basics
After a month of living in the lapse of luxury courtesy of the director I’m working with, I’m back at the Brown Kiwi. At first, I moved all of my stuff to the hostel a day early because I didn’t want to have the hassle of having to pack, move, work, and then move to a new work location all in one day…but I ended up crashing at their house that night anyway because I wanted...
Theremin
Ahh the joys of working on a doco about music. I’ve discovered an instrument that I’ve never heard of, but have definitely heard before- actually it reminds me a bit of the sounds you would hear on a black and white film, especially horror flicks. It’s called the Theremin, was created by Leon Theremin who was a russian genius and later hired by the KGB to create various listening...
Matakiri
I finally figured out the name of my car: Mata. Explanation is found, of course, on wikipedia. I love Wikipedia! Basically, ‘subaru’ is the japanese term for the star constellation, Pleiades. In Maori, the name is matakiri. They are part of the constellation, Taurus which is also my sun sign. I was meant to end up with a subaru!! The car’s label was based on the constellation,...

More photos from the last few weeks..
Real work?
The last few weeks have passed by in a blurry, loud, quiet, hectic, relaxed, sleep-less, and entirely fantastic momentum. It’s hard to try to keep up with all the details…like watching the sun set over Piha, or having a heart to heart with Phil Selway, or playing the upright piano downstairs in Neil Finn’s studio…or doing yoga in the morning to the sounds of exotic birds,...
This was before the 1st concert- Jeff Tweedy & Wilco singing Thunderclaps ‘something in the air’- it was actually the final song where everyone was on stage (I don’t have video of that)…BUT I will be editing the concert footage which may end up being a separate video from the documentary.
Fake Plastic Trees →
This was an incredible cover of Radiohead’s song ‘Fake Plastic Trees’ performed by Jeff Tweedy and KT Tunstall & the rest of the 7 worlds crew. This was just one of the many songs they performed. Sound isn’t the greatest, but you get the idea!
7 Worlds
Last night was the 3rd night of the concert for 7 worlds collide. I got to see all three concerts from a window up at the very top of the venue, a hidden jewel and one of the best views overall, although I assume at the very front was fantastic too. The fact that I got to see all three shows was definitely a treat- the first night was energetic but also chaotic as they all tried to figure out what...
This was the view from the director’s house. The big rock is Lion Rock.
New Years Kiwi style
I didn’t have any plans for NYE because I knew I’d be working, and I wasn’t sure if they would be working through the holiday or not. Thankfully we actaully did have NYE and NY day off, and I was gleeful to be invited to Piha beach where the director has a house overlooking the beach. I’d been to Piha before, and even in the rain, had loved it. Only one beach over, in Keri...
In reverse...
I’ve decided that instead of trying to write where I left off, I’m going to go backwards and express my life in reverse…otherwise I’ll forget the details of now, and that would be a pity! So at the moment, I am sitting in the basement of this huge recording studio belonging to Neil Finn- who some of you may know from the ’80s and ’90s as the lead singer for the...
