August
It’s August! But feels like November. I am now in my new flat- painting, renovating, playing with my flat mate’s girls (8 and 10). Great kids, but what a handful! They really wanted to help me paint, but ended up bickering at each other the whole time. Ahh brings back memories of my sister and I. Now we are very close, so I hope they will be too. I’ve got some silly photos of the two of them I’ll post. I’m still getting used to not being in the center of town where I can walk everywhere, but it’s actually pretty quiet out there, and once the rooms are done, I’ll have lots of space to do yoga, read, relax.
Other than that, I’m looking forward to heading down to the South to get in some skiing and visiting friends. I have yet to change my ticket home. It’s for August 10th, and me, being the eternal procrastinator, has not yet changed it. I will. I have too. I still have this job until September, and I’d like to be able to at least go to the islands and relax or go to Australia in October. Decisions! Life is going a lot slower now that I’ve been here for a while. The traveling was definitely fun, but taking it’s toll- I was having trouble sleeping on the road, and was constantly thinking about time- how much time I had left, how many hours to drive, when did I want to go back etc. etc. Now that I’m here I realize how much of a stress that was!
I’ve also had some good news (well I haven’t followed up on it yet) but my film might be taken up by a NZ Sales agent!! This is my film about my mother, for those of you not in the know. It’s a story about her escape over the Berlin Wall, and struggle with Parkinsons disease. I created a 35 minute cut, but I felt like it could be expanded. I really want to have enough funds to rework it, pay for archival footage fees, and find the right music to go with it. This NZ sales agent said she also has contacts in the US for bringing the film to POV, or Independent Lens (PBS in the States). She was going to have a look at the 35 minute version and get back to me. So keep your fingers crossed!
