Clothing optional?
Haha, just wanted to get your attention. But actually I am thinking of taking a burlesque class. Seems like its all the rage suddenly for women! And it’s more my style really- I love dance and hey why not? Or maybe I should go for pole dancing…I put it out there. Discuss.
Another day in AKL! I’m definitely heading towards 18 months now in New Zealand, and I waiver still between staying and trying for residency and leaving. It’s really not easy to decide because I love it here, but my friends and family are a few thousand miles away. Plus the $$ factor here isn’t great. I have to earn almost twice as much here in order to make a decent salary in the US. Wouldn’t it be just perfect to work for an American company, be paid in American dollars but work in NZ? YAH perfect dream.
And summer is now on its way out, winter shadowing the beautiful view I get to wake up to every morning. I guess you can’t have everything! Tomorrow I get up wicked early and catch a flight to Christchurch on the South Island. I’m really excited! It’s only for two days (one overnight) for the Dead End Derby bout that’s happening Friday night. I’m just excited to get out of Auckland for a while and see other parts of NZ. I’m a bit derby’d out at the moment- went to one last weekend, have been working up to 6 days a week on this film… but I really shouldn’t complain. My life is pretty uncomplicated right now. I have food, a bed to sleep in, dogs to cuddle with when I’m homesick for my puppies, and brain food…ie. I get to work on a film that I believe in, and that is going places. Plus, I have facebook to catch up with friends. Without this social networking thing, I think I’d be lonely!! It’s a travelers best friend. Sad but true.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve met really awesome people here in AKL, but when you start working, and people start leaving to go back to their own countries, it gets lonely real fast. I already knew this was going to happen because of my year in Germany, but it’s still tough. Hats off to all who live abroad! It’s amazingly rewarding but hard.
Well lets see, aside from derby derby derby, I’m planning my next line of attack on life. It’s actually really exciting, scary but exciting. Maybe I’ll win the lottery!! Feet grounded Xandra… :) I just applied for another two months here until end of July/ beginning of August so we can finally FINISH completely, finito, the film. We have friends of mine on board who are both musicians and editors, and are willing to work with us on the soundtrack (wehoo!). I think they are planning on recording material at Niel Finn’s amazing studio (hopefully for less cashola than other bands) which would be awesome. I LOVE that place. This last week M’s been applying for a finishing grant from Women in Film, and I’ve been helping her with editing the application. I forgot how much I love to write and ‘edit’. My derby nickname currently still stands at ‘Slasher’ and it’s growing on me :)
Oh and by the way, last week was the cast and crew premiere of ‘Sun Came Out’- the last film I worked on with Automatic and Neil Finn. He was there with his two sons and crew. It was a bit odd because everyone kept asking me why I was still here. Simon (my favorite un-PC director) seemed to have mentioned in passing that I had been deported. Thanks Simon. Of course he reneged the whole thing. And then asked if I was willing to work on the recent Crowded house music gig for two weeks. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately (?) I am fully committed to Pirates and Pinups :) It would have been fun to do- basically cut a version of the live concert Neil put on a few weeks ago. I still think I left my ipod charger at his mansion (not Neils, Simon’s).
Other than that, hmm oh yes, my plans - well I’m definitely hoping to stay in San Fran for a little while, see what the city offers, if it’s my cup of tea. I’ve been really missed New York lately. Of all places. I’ve never lived there, but I’ve always felt a certain bond to that place. I think at some point soon, I will need to make my mark there. It just wouldn’t be right if I didn’t at least try!
And since I haven’t been doing much more than working lately, I haven’t been taking new photos so for now, my blog is really more of writing journal than a ‘pict’ one. We’ll see. Oh and I got my haircut too… its doing the wings in front thing…i feel a bit like a flashback to the 80’s but i kinda like it. My friend Paola cut it. For free. I LOVE free!!
