Gili Islands
Its been 7 days since my last post. Sounds like I’m an alcoholic! No seriously, no internet in remote places so it’s been not as easy as I thought to actually write my last adventures. But just to keep up the postin’s - Ubud was beautiful and full-on. We did a cooking class, a silversmithing class, and then watched an amazing fire dance show - the show having a special meaning for me which I can explain in my next post!! Oh and we saw Ketut- from Eat Pray Love. Needless to say…we coined the term ‘Ketut’ed every time we got scammed. And Ketuted we’ve been quite a bit!! I am so not good at bargaining, and I should be, because otherwise, you pay enormously. Which is really unfortunate because otherwise, the Balinese people are really friendly and accomodating. Our last stop was Ahmed- on the far east coast of Bali at a place called Medatasi which is run by a former pothead turned yogi. Bungalows overlooking the ocean, meditation and yoga, and lots of snorkeling. We only stayed for two nights and have regretted not staying longer!! So beautiful. This morning, we took the ‘fast boat’ to the Gili islands which are actually off the coast of Lombok- a neighboring island. It’s very different- Lombok is mostly moslem and Bali is mostly Hindu. By the way- I have to admit- my last post about the population of Bali was TOTALLY off. Of course. I get Ketuted easily :) It’s only 3.5 million people. But on a tiny island- that’s enormous.
